About Us

Mercy Community Services North Queensland is a Catholic Not-for-Profit Organisation in Mercy Partners, whose activities benefit both the aged and those who are most vulnerable in our community, with special attention to those requiring residential care.

Our History

Established in 2011, Mercy Community Services North Queensland carries on the well-established tradition inherited from the Sisters of Mercy who pioneered residential care for the aged and infirmed in Townsville, beginning in the early sixties.

  • The Sisters of Mercy, a Congregation of Women in the Catholic Church was founded by Venerable Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland in 1841. Since that time the Sisters have spread to all corners of the world ministering to those in need in a multitude of ways. The Sisters came to Townsville in 1878 and have been involved in Education, Health Care, Aged Care and many other Social and Pastoral Ministries since that time.

  • The Sisters have always worked closely with the men and women who have collaborated with them in their Ministries and to ensure that important community works continue into the future the Sisters are passing the governance and leadership roles to them. This led to the formation of Mercy Community Services North Queensland Board and its membership of Mercy Partners.

Our Vision, Mission and Values

  • Vision

Our vision is to create environmental spaces that promote a safe, happy and healthy lifestyle especially for the most vulnerable in our community. This vision is based on the Catholic belief in the intrinsic preciousness of all life.

  • Mission

Our mission is to conduct our ministries in the name of the Catholic Church by responding compassionately to the needs of the most vulnerable in our community. We provide practical, affordable and excellence in aged and retirement living as well as collaborating with community organisations in the provision of emergency housing.

  • Values

In our efforts to achieve our vision and carry out our mission, all members of the organisation are driven by the values of Mercy, Acceptance, Dignity, Empowerment, Integrity and Excellence as evidenced in the life of Jesus.
